Kathamndu: Nepali Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has embarked on a journey to New York to lead the Nepali delegation at the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held at the UN Headquarters.
Prime Minister Prachanda received a warm farewell at the Tribhuvan International Airport, with dignitaries including Speaker Devraj Ghimire, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka, and other ministers and high-ranking government officials bidding him farewell.
Prominent Address
Scheduled for September 21, Prime Minister Prachanda is set to deliver an address at the UNGA. The theme of the General Debate this year is "Rebuilding Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity: Accelerating Action on the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals towards Peace, Prosperity, Progress, and Sustainability for All."
Engagement at UNGA
During his visit to New York, Prime Minister Prachanda will actively participate in various events on the sidelines of the UNGA. This includes attending the reception hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden on September 19, the UN Sustainable Development Goals Summit, and the Climate Ambition Summit.
Bilateral Diplomacy
The Prime Minister's agenda also involves engaging with world leaders, including a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and bilateral discussions with counterparts from different countries.
Advocating for Nepal
Prime Minister Prachanda emphasized that his visit aims to garner international cooperation and goodwill for Nepal. As Nepal chairs the Global Coordination Bureau of the Least Developed Countries, he will represent the common concerns and agendas of the 47 LDCs during the UNGA session.
Deputy Prime Minister Takes Charge
In his absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka will serve as Acting Prime Minister, overseeing daily administrative tasks. Following the UNGA session, Prime Minister Prachanda is scheduled to travel directly to Hangzhou, China, on September 22.
